Stick a fork in me …. I’m done !!
25 03 2009Well … What can I say? I’ll keep it short and simple …
Did it … Finished it … and will never, ever, EVER do it again !!
I won’t even get into the weather conditions, cramps, blisters, etc. …. I just ask that this subject never be brought up again.
Having now vented … and put in some horrific time … I am genuinely happy that I finished this nightmare and I can now put it behind me! (well, maybe not quite yet, since it’s Wednesday, and I’m still walking with crazy pains)
In closing, I still feel as though I need to leave some thoughts for Paul … and so, I will quote Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the Valley of Darkness; for he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the finder of lost children. And, I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers! And, you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee! (Ezekiel 25:17)
The bold section is just a small indication of how I will feel if you ever suggest anything like this to me again!

Well done Reza. Honolulu marathon next okay ?
Maybe I’ll do the Phuket 2Km !!
They keep it short as they don’t want you to spill your drink !!
Hello. Do you know why they pushed the cut off time by like 1 hour? I was ok. My friend didn’t make the cut off time because the cut off time was like 1 hr earlier than it stated. He got bus back to Big Sight, didn’t get the medal…etc… and he said he is never going to Japan again.
Hi Louis … Not sure why they moved up the cut off times as I was not aware of it, but in general, for the Tokyo Marathon, they need to have some sort of cut-off due to the sheer volume of traffic in the city and the fact that they cannot keep the streets closed for too long.
In the long run, I am hoping that once the Marathon becomes more established and recognized globally, they will implement a model like the NYC Marathon … where they will actually keep one street lane dedicated for runners for up to 12 hours allowing them to continue with peace of mind. But this works because (1) they have found the right formula to manage the traffic and (2) the NYC Marathon is now a very established and popular event.
Every year, there are people who come to the NYC Marathon who have some physical limitations (overweight, impaired, etc.) to attend the marathon for the specific reason that they know the organizers do not have a cut-off time (or a death bus) … thereby allowing the people to do what they need to complete the event.
Thanks for the quick response Reza.
I am guesssing it’s the weather =(
I am trying to do tokyo next year again. I like to food, the people… the food… and ya… and the course… I almost forgot about the race =P
It really is a great course … but again, as it’s a new “official” marathon, they organizers are still learning. I did the inaugural one in 2007 (which I did not finish!!) … It was in February … very cold and it was pouring rain from start to finish!! A very bad combination of timing and conditions. It was brutal. But they have learned and at least moved it to March for hopes of better weather.
