running pox

23 10 2006

Reading about Pauls lunatic watch reminded me of a super watch I had. It could tell the time in 5 different time zones, it was bomb proof, bullet proof and even radiation proof. It could stand a pressure of 10 atmospheres and could be read in the dark.

The problem was….I lost it !!

I had my running plan for the weekend based on Hal Higdons novice schedule. Then BANG I caught a cold on Friday and was forced to rest all weekend. Drat !! Tomorrow is a 5 km run so hopefully will be fit enough to run it. Thus will start my official training.

On Sunday, early, a group of us plan to cycle the marathon course. It would be cool if we could put together a time lapse of the course. How long would it take to cycle 42km ?? hopefully less than 6 hours.

Running home

23 10 2006

Its strange how a slight elevation in ones run can lead to experiencing shin splints. I know, if you follow Paul’s 18 week plan one should rest today as it Monday (and I was always thought that Sunday was the day of rest) however I think a leisurely stroll back hom of about 3.4km was really a rest.

So by my calculations, that is about 382km since this blog started.

20,000 steps

20 10 2006

There has been a significant haze over Singapore as the fires in Indonesia and Malyasia blow the smoke across Singapore and people have been aked to stay indoors.  On Friday morning at 6:00 it looked cool and clean and I started out the door just as it started to rain.  On turning back Margaret said “go on, its only rain”.  So, I was soaked but had a lovely run down Bukit-Timah to the Singapore Botanic Garden, through the garden where there were some other loonies and then up orchid road (yes to the ‘tower’) and then home.  I only had my pedometer for this so I chalked up roughtly 10,000 steps.

I left my polar gear at work on Friday (having decided on a heavy night on Friday night and not wanting to loose my pack.  So Sunday I war an old pedometer and chalked up 10,000 steps in the barmy weather; including swining by work to pick up my kit!

All in all I ran a 20,000 steps (which I gues is not great).

I will have to wear both and work out how many steps make a km.

Lunar(tic) equipment update

Recall my uber-watch ..

My G-Shock AWG-500J  Casio G-Shock. Waterproof. Shockproof. Solar.

Always accurate – synchs to the atomic clock. Perpetual calendar. Dual timezones, multiple alarms, never needs a battery. It’s a great watch. Unfortunately, its not a great stopwatch. It only measures to one hour. You cant read the dial at night, even with the light. So either I have to run the marathon very fast indeed or …

If it hurts the day after…

18 10 2006

One of the things I have noticed about strenuous exercise is that the pain usually happens the second day after. You exercise on Monday but the pain and stiffness will hit you on Wednesday. Yesterday I cycled to work and back. On the way back I stopped by Tamachi station to play a couple of hours footsal. Great fun. Could feel my heart was on the verge of exploding and cramp hit my poor legs.

The big problem is, it really hurts today. Does this mean that I can expect agony tomorrow ?

In anticipation I have designated today as a day of rest. Hope this saves me from some of tomorrows pain
