Lunar(tic) equipment update
18 10 2006Recall my uber-watch ..
Casio G-Shock. Waterproof. Shockproof. Solar.
Always accurate – synchs to the atomic clock. Perpetual calendar. Dual timezones, multiple alarms, never needs a battery. It’s a great watch. Unfortunately, its not a great stopwatch. It only measures to one hour. You cant read the dial at night, even with the light. So either I have to run the marathon very fast indeed or …
… invest in a new watch. Had to be easy to use, readable at night, and a stopwatch to measure at least 6 hours. Alright, lots of watches fit that .. but none quite as splendid as this one perhaps :
The Omega Speedmaster Professional
So I purchased this, and couldn’t be happier. Stopwatch is big and readable, with buttons that clunk firmly. It can time up to 12 hours. I can wear it in the office – looks fine with a suit but its chunky enough to work as a casual watch. It’s tested for space launches, multiple G and operation in a gravity-less vacuum. Here is a fellow who has clearly gone for a very, very long walk with his ( identical ) Omega :
I reckon it’ll be okay on a 26 mile terrestial run …
Next week… follow Paul as he rationalises some other purchase as an essential running aid.
